Brandon Holmes Honored With Pillar of the Community Award at Frostburg State University

2016 May 10

Frostburg State University senior Brandon Holmes of Clinton has been honored with the Pillar of the Community Award at the 2015-2016 FSU Leadership Awards Reception.

The Pillar of the Community Award highlights FSU's most promising students. The University established this award to recognize those students who inspire with their service, their tenacity and their unparalleled love for FSU.

Holmes is described as a renowned leader within Alpha Phi Omega, an incredible peer mentor for Introduction to Higher Education and Preview FSU, a University representative as a Bobcat Ambassador, a social justice activist within the FSU NAACP, an active member of the Social Marketing Team and a student-athlete. He is also a founder of the new student organization UpLift, leading FSU's Biggest Loser weight loss program this year. Holmes also was FSU's 2015 Homecoming King and some refer to him as Mr. Frostburg State University!

Holmes had the foresight of what it meant to be a student at FSU when he applied to be a Preview Guide. In his application he wrote:

"Frostburg State University is a school where you may only be here for four years as an undergraduate, but the experiences you gain while here will stay with you for a lifetime. As a school based on providing experiential learning as opposed to limiting students to basic classroom lectures, Frostburg State provides students with amazing field experience opportunities to better prepare students for starting their careers after graduation. And thanks to our campus size, we are able to keep an intimate class environment lead by our more-than-qualified professors and faculty who share a genuine interest in seeing the students' growth and understanding. As a University, naturally we pride ourselves on academic excellence. Frostburg State understands though that we also need to provide a multitude of outlets for students' entertainment and involvement to maintain a balance to ensure the best collegiate experience possible."
