FSU Music Department's Annual President's Concert

Frostburg State University's Department of Music will host its annual President's Concert featuring students, faculty and ensembles, on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. Seven outstanding music majors were selected by audition to perform. It is free and open to the public.

Mezzo-soprano Sakkara Turner, of Fort Washington, Md., will perform Handel's "Ch'io mai vi possa" and "Meadowlark" from the Stephen Schwartz musical, "The Baker's Wife." The popular wedding song, "Bist du bei mir" by J.S. Bach and "S'altro che lacrime" from "Le Clemenza di Tito" by Mozart will be performed by soprano Katie Hendrix, of Port Deposit, Md.

The Ravel piece "Jeux D'eau," meaning fountains, will be played by pianist Michael Lundien, of Annapolis, and pianist Chen Li, of China, will perform the three-movement, "Sonata, Op. 79" by Beethoven. Pianist Youdan Yu, also of China, will perform Tchaikovsky's fast-flowing, melodic "November: Troika" from "The Seasons."

Andrew York's soothing piece "Sunburst/Jubilation" will be performed by guitarist Garrett Yoder, of McHenry, Md. The student performances will conclude with saxophonist Miquella "Z" Mollon, of Bowie, Md., playing "Sonata, Op. 19, Mvt. II (With Tranquility)" by Paul Creston.

Faculty member Dr. Keith Hanlon, of Cumberland, will perform "Sonatine de Giverny for Piccolo and Piano" by Daniel Dorff. The afternoon will also feature the FSU Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Karen Soderberg-Sarnaker and the FSU Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Brent Weber.
