FSU Student Cheranjana Thuyacontha to Present Senior Recital

Frostburg State University student Cheranjana Thuyacontha will present her senior vocal recital on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Thuyacontha will be accompanied by Joseph Yungen on the piano.

For her selections, Thuyacontha, a soprano, has chosen "Allegro," "Recitativo" and "Larghetto" from "Motette: Exultate, Jubilate" ("Rejoice, Be Glad"), a religious solo motet Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote for the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini in 1773; Allerseelen ("All Souls' Day"), an art song for voice and piano, by Richard Strauss; "Auf dem Schiffe" ("On the Boat") by Johannes Brahms; "Fleurs" ("Flowers") by Francis Poulenc; and "Les filles de Cadix" ("The Girls From Cadiz") by Leo Delibes.

After intermission, Thuyacontha will perform "Ah! Je veux vivre" ("I Want to Live in the Dream") from "Romeo et Juliette" by Charles Gounod, "At the Well" by Richard Hageman, "Why Have You Stolen My Delight?" by Michael Head, "Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen" ("Exult in God in Every Land") from "Cantata 51" by Johan Sebastian Bach; "Tornami a vagheggiar" ("Return to Me to Languish") from "Alcina" by George Frederic Handel; and "Quel guardo il cavaliere" ("That Look, Pierced the Knight") from "Don Pasquale," one of the great masterpieces of Italian comic opera, by Gaetano Donizetti.

Thuyacontha studies voice at FSU with Lawren Hill. She was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar at the University of Maryland, College Park and expects to graduate from FSU in December with a bachelor's degree in music, with a concentration in vocal performance. After graduation, Thuyacontha plans to perform professionally and eventually establish her own voice studio. A graduate of Rockville High School, she is the daughter of Kosala and Anjalika Thuyacontha of Silver Spring, Md.
