FSU Student Selena Schneider to Present Senior Opera Recital

2017 Mar 16

Frostburg State University student Selena Schneider will present her senior opera recital on Sunday, April 2, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. She will be accompanied by Joseph Yungen on the piano. The recital is free and open to the public.

Schneider, a mezzo-soprano, will incorporate music from the Classical era with some very popular Broadway songs. She will begin her recital with "Bel Piacere" by George Frideric Handel, which was composed for the 1709-10 Venice Carnevale season. Next Schneider will perform "Salto Che Lagrime" from "La Clemenza di Tito" by Mozart, written to an Italian libretto. She will then perform "La Speranze E Giunta," another song by Handel. Following will be three songs from composer Franz Schubert, "Gretchen Am Spinnrade," "Nacht und Traume" and "Gott Im Fruhling."

Schneider will next present "Au Jardin De Mon Pere" by Pauline Viardort. She will perform two songs by Gabriel Faure', "Au Bord de L'eau" and "Mandoline." Next Schneider will play "In My Own Little Corner" by Rodgers and Hammerstein, "Water Parted From the Sea" by Thomas Arne, "Mermaid Song" by Franz Joseph Haydn, "I Can't Say No" and "Getting to Know You" by Rodgers and Hammerstein and lastly, "I Know Things Now" by Stephen Sondhiem.

Schneider, who studied under Dr. Mariana Mihai-Zoeter and now studies under Lawren Hill, plans to graduate in the fall 2017 with a bachelor's degree in music education. Her career goal is to become an elementary school teacher in Montgomery County. A graduate of Magruder High School in Rockville, she is the daughter of Shelley Schneider.
