FSU Student Sierra Green to Present Senior Clarinet Recital

2015 Oct 19

Frostburg State University student Sierra Green will present her senior clarinet recital, accompanied by pianist Dr. Jay DeWire, on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.

Green will begin the recital with Robert Schumann's "Three Romances, Op. 94 (1849)," which include "Nicht schnell," "Einfach, innig" and "Nicht schnell." She will then continue with "Rhapsody for Clarinet (1958)" by American composer Willson Osborne. Green will then play "Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 23 (1981)," by Norwegian born composer Trygve Madsen which consists of "Allegro moderato," "Andante" and "Presto." She will conclude her recital with "Grazioso" and "Andantino - Vivace a leggiero" from Leonard Bernstien's "Sonata for Clarinet and Piano (1941-1942)."

Green studies clarinet with Dr. Mark Gallagher. She is the president of the music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota, and the president of the FSU chapter of the National Association for Music Educators. She is a Department of Music band assistant. A 2011 graduate of Fort Hill High School, Green plans to graduate from FSU in May 2016 with a degree in music education, with a goal of teaching elementary general or instrumental music, while also maintaining a private dance studio. "Wherever there are kids who want to be taught, I want to teach them," said Green about her post-graduation plans. She is the daughter of Jody Parrish and Gary Green of Allegany County.
