Karen Johnson Recognized With Frostburg State University Honors

Karen Johnson, of Frostburg, Md., was among the graduate and undergraduate students recognized at Frostburg State University's Honors Convocation in May.

Johnson, who received departmental honors in ethnobotany, has been involved in 4-H, Envirothon and other youth environmental education programs. She has completed undergraduate research on Appalachian plant dyes and rare species funded from an external grant from the Maryland Native Plant Society. Johnson presented her undergraduate research on campus and in Pine Mountain, Ky., at the International Meeting of the Society for Economic Botany. She worked for the Evergreen Heritage Program on an environmental education internship this spring and for Savage River Farms and Frostburg Grows. Johnson will attend the graduate program in applied ecology and conservation biology at FSU this fall.
