Ruth Fabre of Silver Spring Recognized by Frostburg State for Outstanding Service to Community

2016 Aug 3

In May, Frostburg State University recognized Ruth Fabre of Silver Spring, Md., for Service to Community through the ECHOSTARS (Empowering Community, Helping Others, Service Through Action, Resources and Sustainability) Volunteer Program.

Fabre was honored as a Team Leader. As a graduating ECHOSTAR, she was also recognized for her Service to Community and presented with an AmeriCorps cord to wear during Commencement, denoting her lasting commitment to national and community service.

ECHOSTARS is a living, learning and serving experience for Frostburg students committed to making a change in their community. Each year, ECHOSTARS contribute more than 20,000 hours of service to the campus and Western Maryland community.

Participants become part-time members of the AmeriCorps national service project and work closely with full-time AmeriCorps volunteers. Through their service, ECHOSTARS grow into campus and community leaders, empowered with the skills to organize and energize community members in order to enact positive change.
