Steven Lowery Recognized With Frostburg State University Honors

Steven Lowery, of Ellerslie, Md., was among the graduate and undergraduate students recognized at Frostburg State University's Honors Convocation in May.

Lowery, who received departmental honors in chemistry, transferred to FSU after earning an associate degree from Allegany College of Maryland and a certificate in nanotechnology from Penn State. His achievements at FSU include completing multiple research projects, including analyzing lead in paint and synthesizing core-shell nanoparticles; presenting at the ACS National Meeting, the CLAS Undergraduate Research Symposium and elsewhere; setting up FSU's Geochemistry Laboratory; serving as president of GSE Chemistry Honor Society and Student Members of the ACS at FSU; and serving chemistry students as a peer mentor. He received a research assistantship and full scholarship to attend UMBC in fall 2016.
