Two Harford County Students Recognized With Frostburg State University Honors

Two local students were among the graduate and undergraduate students recognized at Frostburg State University's Honors Convocation in May.

Erin Benton of Aberdeen, who received departmental honors in chemistry, presented her research on sustainable solvents at the American Chemical Society's 2014 National Meeting in Dallas and FSU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Symposium in 2013 and 2014. She was a member of the Student Members of the American Chemical Society and Gamma Sigma Epsilon, the national chemistry honor society. She also served the Chemistry Department as a student work-study employee for several semesters. Benton plans to pursue a graduate degree in chemistry, chemical biology or biochemistry. A graduate of Harford Technical High School in Bel Air, she is the daughter of Donald and Martha Benton of Aberdeen.

Margaret Stuempfle of Edgewood, who received departmental honors in French, graduated with a major in modern foreign languages - French and a minor in psychology. Her enthusiasm for the French language motivated her to revive the French club, La Pr?sence Francophone. Also, Stuempfle worked as an assistant in the language lab and as a French tutor. She was a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and president of the Catholic Campus Ministry. After graduation, Stuempfle plans to pursue a master's in FSU's Master of Arts in Teaching Program. A graduate of Edgewood High School, she is the daughter of Karl and Amy Stuempfle.
