FSU Communication Students Inducted Into Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society
On May 2, seven Frostburg State University students were inducted into the University's Phi Epsilon chapter of Lambda Pi Eta (LPH), the official communication honor society of the National Communication Association, by the current chapter leadership. The new inductees are Tessa Brewer, Samantha Dabrowski, Morgan Johnson, Ciel LaBossiere-Little, Emily Morgan, Tasia Smith and Rosemary Wehberg.

Senior Exhibition Set for Frostburg State University Art Students
The Senior Exhibition for six Frostburg State University students, Matinicus Creek, Donovan Carter, Shelby Brothers, DeVonte Jackson, Alec Edwards and Madison McKenzie, will open Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. the Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery in FSU's Fine Arts Building. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

FSU Chamber Singers and University Chorale to Present "Global Sounds: A Mosaic of Song"
The Frostburg State University Chamber Singers and University Chorale will present their spring choral concert, "Global Sounds: A Mosaic of Song," on Friday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature works examining music from many different countries, including the United States, Germany, Inner Mongolia, Venezuela, Scotland and Italy.

Forest Bierman wants to be a difference maker and sees teaching as his start to be one. Bierman, a social science major with a political science concentration, sees himself in a classroom sharing his passion for civics. But in the big picture, he sees teaching as a stepping stone to go on and become active in policymaking and politics.

FSU's Department of Music to Present Spring Opera Theatre Performance
Frostburg State University's Department of Music will present famous operatic scenes from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Bastien and Bastienna," Samuel Barber's "A Hand of Bridge," Henry Purcell's "The Fairy Queen," Christoph Willibald Gluck's "Orfeo ed Euridice" and Georges Bizet's "Pearl Fishers" for its spring opera theatre concert. Performances will take place Monday, April 23, and Tuesday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.

FSU Student Donovan Carter's Maryland-Themed Mission Patch to Fly to International Space Station
Astronaut Ricky Arnold isn't the only piece of Frostburg State that is rendezvousing with the International Space Station this year. A mission patch designed by FSU art and design major Donovan Carter will be on its way to space in June. Carter won the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program Mission Design Competition with his Maryland-inspired patch. The patch represents the University System of Maryland in SSEP Mission 12.

Frostburg State University sophomore Benjamin Forrest was chosen by Campus Compact to be honored as the 2018 Newman Civic Fellow, which acknowledges motivation and potential in public leadership. Forrest is one of the 268 students who were honored among all Campus Compact institutions.

FSU doctoral student Billy J. Wrights recently participated in the Student Veterans of America's 2017 Leadership Institute held at the George Bush Presidential Center in Dallas. This highly selective program brought student veterans together for intensive on-site leadership training. Wrights was identified as one of the top 100 student veterans from across the country to attend this all-expense-paid leadership training experience.

Paul Churchyard has traveled all over the country this summer without leaving his office. That's because the 19-year-old Earth Science and Geography major worked on mapping trails for the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy's website www.traillink.com.

Jillian Steinert, 22, of Dundalk, Md., has seen how building trust can blossom into opportunity for children and teenagers. Steinert worked as a recreational therapy intern at St. Vincent's Villa in Timonium, where the Catholic Charities program provides therapy for children with behavioral and emotional needs.

Frostburg Intern Paul Oakley's Law Enforcement Training Goes to the Dogs
FSU senior Paul Oakley, 21, always had a dog in his house growing up and always had a passion for law enforcement, thanks to his grandfather. This summer he started putting those pieces together, interning with the Calvert County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit. After his experience, Oakley plans to apply to the sheriff's office in December to start his dream job.

Frostburg State Intern Alexandra Hemphill Learns Opera Festival's Ins and Outs
Sometimes the perks of an internship are reason enough to say yes. Alexandra Hemphill, 21, of Hagerstown, worked as a box office intern at the Utah Festival of Opera and Musical Theatre this summer in Logan, Utah. The paid internship gave her a behind-the-scenes look and training of a professional theatre company, both in the box office and on stage.

Frostburg State University student Amanda Sirleaf, of Germantown, Md., is familiar with the barriers that immigrants face becoming U.S. citizens. Her father is from Liberia and her mother is from Sierra Leone, each of whom had their own journey to the U.S., where they met, married and have lived happily ever since.
