Frostburg State University celebrates the achievements of the fall 2014 graduating class with the 147th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 19. The ceremony for the colleges of Business, Education and Liberal Arts and Sciences will take place at 2 p.m. in the Main Arena of the Cordts Physical Education Center.

The universe is now coming into focus through Frostburg State University's Observatory, where stunning images from the rooftop observatory are now being projected on the FSU Planetarium and Multimedia Learning Center's dome screen during shows.

FSU-TV3 has four new staff members to help produce the series this fall. The creative and production team includes producers Adam Brant and Wayne Kifer and Promotion and Production specialists Savannah Cover and Caitlin Squires. The following members of Frostburg State University's chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Management (SAM) presented the findings of their business case study at SAM's national competition this spring in Las Vegas. The students analyzed 3D Systems, which is a competitor in the 3D printing industry. The students researched the company and the industry on their own for nine weeks to determine appropriate strategies.

Frostburg State University senior Stephanie Fazenbaker of Frostburg has been honored with the Pillar of the Community Award at the 2014-2015 FSU Leadership Awards Reception.

Frostburg State University junior Alanna Hirshman of Waldorf was honored with the Derek Thomson Sheely Leadership Award at the 2014-2015 FSU Leadership Awards Reception.

Frostburg State University senior Jacob McDonald of Frederick was honored with the Father Ed Hendricks Award at the 2014-2015 FSU Leadership Awards Reception.

Frostburg State University senior Sara King of Oakland was honored with the Outstanding Programming Award at the 2014-2015 FSU Leadership Awards Reception.

Frostburg State University senior Sarah Pesi of Arnold was honored with the Student Government Association Outstanding Senior Award at the 2014-2015 FSU Leadership Awards Reception.

Frostburg State University junior Victoria Glass of New Market was honored with the Class of 1959 Scholarship Award at the 2014-2015 FSU Leadership Awards Reception.

Frostburg State University senior Janet Adesina of New Carrollton was honored with the Social Change Award at the 2014-2015 FSU Leadership Awards Reception.

Frostburg State University freshman James Kirk of LaVale was honored with the Emerging Leader Award at the 2014-2015 FSU Leadership Awards Reception.

The Allegany Museum in Cumberland could see more visitors and dollars come through its doors thanks to a study from Frostburg State University marketing students. As part of a capstone course, MKTG 469 Marketing Plans Development, undergraduate marketing majors team up to take on clients from the community that receive free research and advice after a semester's worth of work.

FSU senior Sam Hammett was named NASPA/BACCHUS Region 12 Outstanding Student for her four years of leadership and successful campaigns on body image and sexual health.

Michael McCampbell, who earned his master's degree in applied ecology and conservation biology from Frostburg State University this spring, won the Edmund H. Fulling Award at the joint Society of Ethnobotany 37th annual and Society for Economic Botany 55th annual international conference held in Cherokee, N.C., in May. McCampbell won the award for his presentation, "Seedling Establishment of American Chestnut, 'Castanea dentata,' in Pennsylvania."
