The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Induction
On Saturday, Dec. 2, thirteen new students were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society. The Society's mission is to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others. Presiding over the ceremony were Dr. Linda Steele, chapter president; Dr. James Saku, chapter vice president; Dr. Eric Moore, chapter secretary; and Dr. Matthew Crawford, chapter treasurer. Undergraduate initiates were as follows: Ryan Adams, Ava Breighner, Jillian Davis, Elizabeth Emerick, Alivia Melius and Cierra Wilson. Graduate initiates were as follows: Ruth Georg, Briana Gibson, Melanie Hebert, Flory Medrano, Jeremiah Rohrbaugh, Julie Thomas and Rebecca Vaughan. Dr. William Wetherholt was the faculty initiate, and Lori Herringa was the alumni initiate.

36 Inductees Installed into FSU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi
The Frostburg State University chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi inducted 36 new members during a ceremony held May 6 at FSU's Gira Center. The Society is the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. New members include 23 undergraduate students, 10 graduate students, one faculty member and two distinguished alumni.

Frostburg State University student, Zachary Arnold, recieved the Father Ed Hendricks Award at the 2023 Leadership and Engagement Awards celebration on May 4. This award recognizes a student leader who has demonstrated a genuine concern for the well-being of others. Candidates demonstrate compassion and commitment to the campus community, and through their integrity and their many contributions have made a significant impact on FSU. This award honors the legacy of Father Ed Hendricks, former Catholic Chaplain, and his distinguished service to Frostburg State University.

Frostburg State University student, Stella Beerninik, recieved the Outstanding Educational Programming Award at the 2023 Leadership and Engagement Awards celebration on May 4 for her efforts with the Women's Health Fair. This award recognizes a student leader or student organization that has implemented an impactful educational program on campus. This program raised awareness on an issue, led to an understanding of a topic and supported students in their educational journey through college.

Frostburg State University student, Evelyn Shanholtz, recieved the Outstanding Social Programming Award at the 2023 Leadership and Engagement Awards celebration on May 4 for her efforts working with a Trunk or Treat event. This award recognizes a student leader or student organization for their time and talents to facilitate an engaging and thoughtful event for FSU. It also recognizes programming that is inherently social in nature, that brings individuals together, builds campus community and promotes student life on campus.

A 2022 graduate of Frostburg State University, Jacob Wilson earned his bachelor of science degree in health science. Now in his first year of medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM), Wilson can't imagine himself anywhere else.

Frostburg State University Student Joins USM Langenberg Legacy Fellows Program
Frostburg State University student, Jamie Roberts, has been selected to join student fellows across the University System of Maryland (USM) institutions in this year's cohort of the Langenberg Legacy Fellows Program. The Langenberg Legacy launched in 2022 to stimulate student leaders' pursuit of micro-level civic engagement projects that will lead to solutions to broader issues threatening justice, human rights and the environment.

Rachael Michalski Elected President of FSU's Student Government Association
Rachael Michalski, of Chester, Md., was recently elected as the president of Frostburg State University's Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2023-24 academic school year. Her responsibility as the leader of the SGA Executive Branch will be to oversee the daily operations and act as a liaison between University administration and the student body.

FSU Engineering Student Bria' Johnson Receives Prestigious Department of Energy Fellowship
For Frostburg State University engineering student Bria' Johnson, getting to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy's prestigious Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) program this past summer was a tremendous honor. She was even more honored when her research project was highlighted on the DOE's official website. Johnson spent the 10-week program working on "Materials Modeling and Simulation or Supply Chain Assessments" determining "the long-term creep strength and life" of a corrosion- and heat-resistant nickel-base alloy. Her research assignment was monitored by top scientists at the DOE's Office of Fossil Energy.

FSU Student Will Baxter Wins International Design Contest for Agency Representation
Frostburg State University senior art student Will Baxter has wanted to be a professional artist since visiting Disney World when he was five years old. He was named special "artist of the day" by a street illustrator and had the chance to sketch with an official Disney artist.

FSU Student Caitlyn Rund to Perform Junior Alto Saxophone Recital
Frostburg State University's Department of Music will present a livestreamed alto saxophone recital, titled "Eating Elephants," by junior Caitlyn Rund on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. She will be accompanied by pianist Dr. Joseph Yungen.
