Frostburg State University senior art student Will Baxter has wanted to be a professional artist since visiting Disney World when he was five years old. He was named special "artist of the day" by a street illustrator and had the chance to sketch with an official Disney artist.

Frostburg State University's Department of Music will present a livestreamed alto saxophone recital, titled "Eating Elephants," by junior Caitlyn Rund on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. She will be accompanied by pianist Dr. Joseph Yungen. Frostburg State University student Paul Zimmerman will present his junior guitar recital on Thursday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. He will be accompanied by guest artist Greg Hays on guitar. This event is free and open to the public.

Frostburg State University's Opera Theatre will present "An Evening of Operetta" on Monday, Nov. 12, and Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Frostburg State University students Grant Stryckning, on guitar, and Mirto Dorcil, on piano, will present their joint recital, titled "Alone Together," on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.

The Senior Exhibition for six Frostburg State University students, Matinicus Creek, Donovan Carter, Shelby Brothers, DeVonte Jackson, Alec Edwards and Madison McKenzie, will open Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. the Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery in FSU's Fine Arts Building. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Astronaut Ricky Arnold isn't the only piece of Frostburg State that is rendezvousing with the International Space Station this year. A mission patch designed by FSU art and design major Donovan Carter will be on its way to space in June. Carter won the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program Mission Design Competition with his Maryland-inspired patch. The patch represents the University System of Maryland in SSEP Mission 12.

Frostburg State University's Department of Music will present student Jessica Ruskin in her senior research lecture presentation, "Music Perception and Mental Illness," on Thursday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m. in room 139 of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.

The Frostburg State University Chamber Singers and University Chorale will present their spring choral concert, "Global Sounds: A Mosaic of Song," on Friday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature works examining music from many different countries, including the United States, Germany, Inner Mongolia, Venezuela, Scotland and Italy.

Frostburg State University's Department of Music will present famous operatic scenes from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Bastien and Bastienna," Samuel Barber's "A Hand of Bridge," Henry Purcell's "The Fairy Queen," Christoph Willibald Gluck's "Orfeo ed Euridice" and Georges Bizet's "Pearl Fishers" for its spring opera theatre concert. Performances will take place Monday, April 23, and Tuesday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Frostburg State University student Greg Hays will present his junior guitar recital on Thursday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. He will be accompanied by Patrick Sise and Paul Zimmerman on guitars. The recital is free and open to the public.

Frostburg State University student Selena Schneider will present her senior opera recital on Sunday, April 2, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. She will be accompanied by Joseph Yungen on the piano. The recital is free and open to the public.

Frostburg State University student Michael Lundien will present his junior piano recital on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.

Frostburg State University Music Education students Alexa Bashaw and Shefali Shah spent a day in June on Capitol Hill advocating for the importance of music education for every student at the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) annual Capitol Hill Day. Bashaw and Shah were the only two college students representing Maryland at the event.

Opera isn't all Verdi and Puccini, as Frostburg State University music students found out this spring. Musical numbers, classic opera pieces, music theatre scenes and even a rap all came together for an opera variety show called "Opera Surf: Find Your Own Channel."

Three Frostburg State University students have placed in voice competitions this year.

Learning to work outside of your comfort zone is one thing, but Frostburg State University Fine Arts major Shea Crumbley figured out how to excel outside of hers.

Frostburg State University student Garrett Yoder will present his junior guitar recital, accompanied by guest guitarists Greg Hays and Charlie Engleka, on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. The performance is free and open to the public.

Frostburg State University student Bonnie Brashear will present her junior flute recital, accompanied by Dr. Jay DeWire on piano, on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Frostburg State University will present a theatrical performance of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "To Kill a Mockingbird," on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26 and 27, and Thursday through Saturday, March 3 to 5, at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. All performances will take place in the Performing Arts Center Drama Theatre.

Cheranjana Thuyacontha, a senior at Frostburg State University, recently won the Eastern Division level of the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist competition held at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. Thuyacontha, of Silver Spring, Md., had won the Maryland State level of the competition in September and will compete in April in the final National level of the competition in San Antonio.

Visitors to downtown Frostburg will be able to spot a series of miniature robots created by a senior Frostburg State University Art & Design major.
