Frostburg State University sophomore Brian Day, of Keedysville, Md., and junior Christopher Lodder, of Dunkirk, Md., presented at the 251st American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition held in San Diego in mid-March. The two presented the educational outreach and professional development activities of FSU's chapter of the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) at the Successful Student Chapters Poster Session with a poster titled "SMACS Attacks Chemistry."

The Frostburg State University Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Kevin McManus, will present its spring concert on Friday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Frostburg State University senior Steven Lowery, of Ellerslie, Md., presented his research project at the 251st American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition held in San Diego in mid-March. His project, titled "Developing a Safer, Optimized Method for Determining Lead in Paint," presented at the Analytical Chemistry Poster Session, involved replacing hazardous assays with a microwave digestion procedure followed by analysis with atomic absorption spectroscopy.

Dana Severance, of Frostburg, Md., recently received a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Frostburg State University during its 147th commencement ceremonies. FSU Interim President Dr. Thomas Bowling conferred nearly 500 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees at this December commencement.

Frostburg State University music students Cristian Dohler and Susan Zoller will perform a joint flute recital on Sunday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. The Department of Theatre and Dance at Frostburg State University will present a theatrical performance of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "To Kill a Mockingbird," on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26 and 27, and Thursday through Saturday, March 3 to 5, at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. All performances will take place in the Performing Arts Center Drama Theatre.

Cheranjana Thuyacontha, a senior at Frostburg State University, recently won the Eastern Division level of the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist competition held at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. Thuyacontha, of Silver Spring, Md., had won the Maryland State level of the competition in September and will compete in April in the final National level of the competition in San Antonio.

Just like the title character of "Junie B. Jones: The Musical," the show's cast and crew can stand out in a crowd for all the right reasons. The children's musical is part of Frostburg State University's Roundabout Theatre and CES Arts for the Schools, which travelled to area schools to stage the play during the fall semester.

Visitors to downtown Frostburg will be able to spot a series of miniature robots created by a senior Frostburg State University Art & Design major.

Frostburg State University celebrates the achievements of the fall 2014 graduating class with the 147th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 19. The ceremony for the colleges of Business, Education and Liberal Arts and Sciences will take place at 2 p.m. in the Main Arena of the Cordts Physical Education Center.

The Frostburg State University Department of Theatre and Dance will present Donald Margulies' hilarious and heartwarming "Coney Island Christmas," a holiday play for people of all ages and faiths on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4 and 5, and Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 10 to 12, at 7:30 p.m. Matinees will be on Sunday, Dec. 6 and 13, at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the Drama Theatre of the Performing Arts Center.

The universe is now coming into focus through Frostburg State University's Observatory, where stunning images from the rooftop observatory are now being projected on the FSU Planetarium and Multimedia Learning Center's dome screen during shows.
