Frostburg State University will celebrate student achievements of its fall 2017 graduating class with the 151st Commencement ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 19. The ceremony for the colleges of Business, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences will take place in the Harold J. Cordts Physical Education Center's Main Arena at 2 p.m.

FSU doctoral student Billy J. Wrights recently participated in the Student Veterans of America's 2017 Leadership Institute held at the George Bush Presidential Center in Dallas. This highly selective program brought student veterans together for intensive on-site leadership training. Wrights was identified as one of the top 100 student veterans from across the country to attend this all-expense-paid leadership training experience.

Paul Churchyard has traveled all over the country this summer without leaving his office. That's because the 19-year-old Earth Science and Geography major worked on mapping trails for the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy's website www.traillink.com.

Jillian Steinert, 22, of Dundalk, Md., has seen how building trust can blossom into opportunity for children and teenagers. Steinert worked as a recreational therapy intern at St. Vincent's Villa in Timonium, where the Catholic Charities program provides therapy for children with behavioral and emotional needs.

FSU senior Paul Oakley, 21, always had a dog in his house growing up and always had a passion for law enforcement, thanks to his grandfather. This summer he started putting those pieces together, interning with the Calvert County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit. After his experience, Oakley plans to apply to the sheriff's office in December to start his dream job.

You can tell Audrey Aron is a people pleaser with her wide smile. That was put to the test to see how the Frostburg State University recreation and parks management major could make guests feel at ease after long international flights, wanting to get a good night's sleep at the InterContinental David Tel Aviv Hotel & Resort in Israel.

Candidates for Frostburg State University's 2017 Homecoming Court raised a combined $5,370 for regional and national charitable organizations in the weeks before Homecoming, raising more than any previous year and $480 more than last year's effort.

Alexandra Hemphill, 21, of Hagerstown, worked as a box office intern at the Utah Festival of Opera and Musical Theatre this summer in Logan, Utah. Marcelino, 21, is looking at certain flavor properties of beer using a gas chromatography mass spectrometer at her internship with Shimadzu in Columbia, Md. The Japanese company manufactures scientific equipment. This one analyzes and identifies compounds.

Frostburg State University student Cassidy Zagone, 22, is a diehard Washington Redskins fan with a passion for promoting events. Being the special events and development intern for the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation felt like a dream come true.
