Frostburg State University's Department of Music will present a livestreamed alto saxophone recital, titled "Eating Elephants," by junior Caitlyn Rund on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. She will be accompanied by pianist Dr. Joseph Yungen. The recital is free to view online. The link will be posted at www.frostburg.edu/concerts.

Frostburg State University student Jessica Thayer of Oakland, Md., has been named a Newman Civic Fellow, which recognizes and supports community-committed students. Thayer is a senior double majoring in law and society and political science and minoring in philosophy and is the Student Government Association (SGA) vice president.

While the annual convocation ceremony was unable to be held due to the continuing pandemic, the following honorees have nonetheless been recognized for their remarkable accomplishments and academic excellence.

The following area students have earned degrees from Frostburg State University for the spring semester. While the 156th commencement ceremony has been postponed, diplomas were still awarded to more than 650 candidates for degrees. "I offer my heartfelt congratulations on your achievement," said FSU President Ronald Nowaczyk in a video message to graduates. "You have worked many years for this milestone, and the events of the past few months have not lessened the magnitude of your achievement. If anything, they have heightened it."

Frostburg State University announces the following area students have received scholarships for study at the University.

Calvin Richards of Hagerstown, a student in Frostburg State University's physician assistant (PA) program, was selected from thousands of PA students across the country as one of 18 to participate in the American Academy of Physician Assistant (AAPA) House of Delegates National Conference in May 2020. The House of Delegates establishes policies and guides the direction of the AAPA Academy each year.

Elizabeth Green of McHenry, Md., an August 2019 graduate from the Frostburg State University Master of Science program in applied ecology and conservation biology, was awarded the Graduate Student Poster Presentation Award at the Natural Areas Association's Natural Areas Conference (NAC) in Pittsburgh.

Frostburg State University will celebrate student achievements of its fall 2019 graduating class with the 155th Commencement ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The ceremony for the colleges of Business, Education, and Liberal Arts and Sciences will take place in the Harold J. Cordts Physical Education Center's Main Arena at 2 p.m.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan honored a volunteer from a Frostburg State University-affiliated AmeriCorps program, FSU senior Mekhi Jones, during the 36th Annual Governor's Service Awards Ceremony, which was hosted by the Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism in October.
