As a young girl, Frostburg State University student Kaoutar Sahmoudi always had engineering on her "radar." But it was a career path that was uncommon for women and, particularly, women of color. Now, Sahmoudi's commitment to pursue her dream is receiving international recognition.

Frostburg State University student Jessica Thayer of Oakland, Md., has been named a Newman Civic Fellow, which recognizes and supports community-committed students. Thayer is a senior double majoring in law and society and political science and minoring in philosophy and is the Student Government Association (SGA) vice president.

Frostburg State University's Department of Music will present a livestreamed alto saxophone recital, titled "Eating Elephants," by junior Caitlyn Rund on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. She will be accompanied by pianist Dr. Joseph Yungen. While the 156th commencement ceremony has been postponed, diplomas were still awarded to more than 650 candidates for degrees. "You have worked many years for this milestone, and the events of the past few months have not lessened the magnitude of your achievement. If anything, they have heightened it."
